As Artist in Residence in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds, funded by The Leverhulme Trust from 2010-2011, I was able to undertake an exploration of the creative potential of concrete, utilising the concrete laboratory’s specialist facilities. Research into unusual aggregates and additives to promote fluidity, combined with the use of unorthodox flexible moulds enabled me to investigate form, surface and colour, exploiting the versatility and tactility of concrete as a sculptural material.
